Arizona Still Ranks Highest for Identity Theft Victims

Comments Off

According to an article in the publication Newszapp.com, Arizona still ranks highest in the nation for victims of identity theft per 100,000 people. According to the article,

In the Federal Trade Commission’s annual report released Jan. 25 detailing identity theft in 2005, Arizona had the most victims per 100,000 than any other state with 9,320 cases. Mesa ranked No. 3 in the top 5 cities for identity theft in Arizona in 2005 with 745 victims. Gilbert did not rank in the top cities, but Chandler made No. 5 with 342 victims.

Apparently, employment-related fraud tops the list of Arizona identity theft crimes. Next comes credit card fraud and other types of fraud as detailed in the Federal Trade Commission survey. So if you plan on visiting Arizona soon, make sure you shred all of your credit card receipts and stay away from employers! Seriously, by following some simple steps, you can minimize the risk of identity theft no matter whether you live in Arizona, Wisconsin or any other state. The Federal Trade Commission gives you some helpful tips for starters on how to minimize these risks. Although I have posted this web site resource in the past, here again is your identity theft resource tool maintained by the Federal Trade Commission for the benefit of the public.
