Free Safety Kits Available for Recalled Bumbo Baby Seats

Over a month ago, Bumbo International, in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, voluntarily recalled 4 million of their popular Bumbo Baby Seats. The brightly colored infant floor seats are popular item for mom’s and moms-to-be. Most parents swear by these. But, on August 15^th, the CSPC and manufacturers warned of the dangers of a potential fall hazard. Thirty-four incidents of babies wriggling out of the seats have been reported. A previous recall regarding falling hazards was issued in 2007 after 50 incidents of babies falling from seat while it was placed on a raised surface. The product was rereleased with an updating warning label advising parents to keep the seat on the floor.

For parents who don’t want to give up their Bumbo, the manufacturer is now offering repair kits for the 4 million seats affected by the most recent recall.

The free repair kit consists of a restraint belt with a warning label, installation instructions, safe use instructions and a new warning sticker. This belt should always be used with the child is in the seat. This will prevent the child from falling onto the floor. Even with the restraint, The seat is still considered unsafe for raised surfaces.
