Be a Safe Driver – 10 Driving Safety Tips for the Holiday Season

Comments Off

Holiday travel begins… so be a safe driver.

Here is a distracted driving resource that is well done. It is provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

  1. Don’t drive distracted. That includes being responsible about cell phone use, maps, nav systems, radio, cds, ipods, texting, make-up, kids, pets, food and drinks in the car.
  2. Don’t drive drunk!
  3. Don’t drive impaired. Not even a little bit.
  4. Stay Alert. Keep your eyes moving to avoid a hypnotic stare at the road… including using your rear view mirror
  5. Be defensive. Expect the unexpected and leave yourself room to maneuver. Don’t let other drivers determine your safety. I see you… do you see me? Make sure the other drivers see you. Never assume that the other driver is going to do something.
  6. Use your turn signals, even just to change lanes.
  7. Maintain a good average speed on highways. Obey ALL speed limits.
  8. Respect the weather.
  9. Don’t drive tired. Be alert when you drive.
  10. Have your car serviced before long drives

Kids come home from college this weekend, families get together, the celebration begins. Lets have fun, enjoy each other’s company. But let’s be thankful, safe and careful.
